Celebration of 5th Anniversary MSC – Proslava pet godina postojanja MSZ

English 5th Anniversary MSC (Maltese-Serbian Community) celebrated at Sliema Pitch on the 7th February 2015. Dr. Predrag Andrejevic, president of MSC, personally addressed the members, following the event, in the letter here under. Dear Members and Friends, The Maltese-Serbian Community celebrated its fifth anniversary at Sliema Pitch on the 7th February. It was well attended and the number of members has doubled from last year. Although we have not reached the number of 250 members that we had in 2012, the total number of members presently stands at 130. This year we launched Branko (Bane) Djoric financial fund with the aim of providing assistance to members in case of sudden death. We would appreciate donations of a minimum of 10 Euro or every three months. We will be posting the amount collected and the donors’ names at the end of each year on our website. In addition two lawyers have offered their services to our members at a reduced rate. One is an expert in the Family law and the other in Employment law. The names and contact numbers of the lawyers will be published on our site. Please follow the page Services for Members In collaboration with our Embassy in Rome we have started the process of setting up a Maltese-Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Parliamentary friendship between the two parliaments. Her Excellency Ms Ana Hrustanovic has also pledged to bring Serbian Foreign Minister to Malta and to meet us too. We may also be organising a bigger cultural event towards the end of the year. I would like to thank you all for your unconditional support and for recognizing the need for us to have an honest and strong relationship. I must thank Mr. Ninoslav Jovanovic for his perfect IT management and the excellent running of our website and social media, Mr Dragan Mircheta and Mrs Tania Kavaji for their delicious dinner and sweets counter and of course Mr Sava Coric, without who’s groundwork, our community would not be able to exist. I would also like to thank Ms Djina Ficur and Mr Goran Tonkic who worked hard on the night of the celebration. On behalf of all of you I would also like thank Professor Milena Dobreva, Dr. Vladimir Tomic and Mr Zoran Vasovic who contributed financially to Bane’s fund as well as our new PR Ms Tia Reljic for her excellent cover of the event. Last but not least, I would like to thank all of you as without you, the Serbian community here would be on the margins of the Maltese society. I am privileged to be part of this community. Predrag (Pedja) Andrejevic President of MSC On the evening we had a small raffle for our members and we would like to thank our sponsors for their donations: Robert Arrigo and Sons Island Hotels – Radisson Blue Resort Kettlebells Malta – Ms. Maja Vaha GX-1 Health and Fitness Club Ofion Software – Mr. Ninoslav Jovanovic SJ Hairstudio Malta JungleSpirit Yoga and Fitness Center Ms. Catherine Galea Ms. Zorica Miladinovic Srpski Petogodišnjicu postojanja MSZ (Malteško-srpske zajednice) proslavili smo 7. februara 2015. u Sliema Pitch Beach Resortu. Floods In Serbia Biggest Natural Disaster In 100 Years

Few days ago, following the long period of rain, Serbia was hit with SEVERE floods ever recorded, some experts says that in one day rainfall amounted to the average of four months’ worth of rain which caused rivers to flood. Number of cities are evacuated and some people are still in a grave danger and awaiting evacuation. Serbia was not prepared for something like this and hereby we ask all of you to donate something to help Serbia, you can find more information here under. Carrying nothing but a handful of belongings, and trying to save bare lives, tens of thousands of people were evacuated from their homes from several locations in Serbia. Soldiers and the emergency crews were trying to rescue thousands trapped by water in Obrenovac, near Belgrade and authorities also ordered evacuation of Baric. Rising rivers rapidly rushed into houses and buildings, at some places even to the rooftops, where most of the people were climbing for the rescue. Similar situation was in Bosnia and now the flooding is spreading to Croatia where hundreds were also evacuated. Floods already took more than 15 lives but the toll could rise, as authorities stated. There is no drinking water and electricity in thousands of homes. Landslides triggered by the floods also raised the risk of injury or death. Withdrawing water in some places is taking away parts of the roads and somewhere even whole houses. This is definitely the worst flood in a century, since the meteorological observation and recording started 120 years ago. Seeing Obrenovac from the air, streets covered with water, cars roofs could be barely seen, and in some parts even whole houses are covered. But the worst is still not passed, there is another wave coming, hundreds of volunteers arrived from all parts of Serbia and some from Russia and neighbouring countries to help local people fight the rivers with sand and scarce machinery. Belgrade and neighbouring cities are sheltering people in schools and sports halls, companies and individuals were helping with donation of materials, hygiene, food and drinking water and lot of volunteers are working around the clock to help their countryman. But the worst is still expected after the water withdraws, risk of epidemic will be high, expected food and drinking water deficiency. We urge everyone who can help with money donations to the Red Cross Serbia or through our association here in Malta. On the same occasion, the tenth anniversary of the Orthodox Parish of St. Peter and Paul (Sv. Petar I Pavle) was also celebrated. Fr. St. Sava Football Tournament

The sixth traditional five a side St. Sava tournament was held on the 29th January at the University grounds in Msida. It was yet again perfectly organized by Mr. Nebojsa  Mijailovic who is also the founder of the tournament. It was the largest tournament until now and had eight participating teams.  The strong competition was won by the team named ‘’ Grobari’’, followed by ‘’St. Sava’ and ‘’Vukovici’’. A friendly but still competitive atmosphere was created by the never tiered supporters of the ‘’ Grobari’’ team. The final match was between ‘’ St. Sava’’ (white shirts) team who won the last three tournaments and the new comers ‘’ Grobari’’ (black shirts) team. The boys in white shirts had a better first half time and led with three goals but ‘’Grobari’’ fought back and equalised just before the final whistle. Penalties determined the winner, when one of the white boys missed the goal post. Trophies were presented by Mr. Mijailovic and the circulating ST. Sava’s trophy will be presented to the Capitan of ‘’ Grobari’’ team on the 10th of February 2012. From next year St. Sava’s tournament will be under patronage of Maltese- Serbian Community.
